How to Become a Florida Notary Online
A Florida resident who is 18 years of age can apply to become a notary public. Once approved the person is on the record as a state-appointed government official who has the authority to witness the signing of legal documents, administer oaths and even perform wedding ceremonies. Duties of a notary public include confirming the identity of the parties signing the document, ensuring the document is properly executed and making certain that the parties understand what they are signing and are doing so of their own free will.
Instructions
- 1
Locate a notary processor that is authorized to electronically transfer notary applications to the Notary Commissions and Certifications Section. A list of bonding agencies that provide this service can be found at the State of Florida Division of Corporations website and these agencies usually provide packages for notary applicants that include training materials, application, payment of the state fees, notary seal and your notary bond for one price.
2Complete the required 3 hour notary public training course. You will need to take this course prior to submitting your application. Notary training is free and can be taken online from the Florida Department of State website, or you can find a list of providers at the Governor's website.
3Fill out and submit your notary public application and bond application to the provider you chose in step one. Some of the companies will allow you to fill out and submit the form online, others will ask you to fill it out online, print it, sign it and mail the original documents to them. Follow their instructions.
4Purchase a notary stamp and record book. Once you have received your commission you will be able to order these items online. The notary stamp is required by all notaries. The record book is recommended and preferred practice in the industry.
