How to Find a Bankruptcy Lawyer

Bankruptcy is an important step, and you'll want to find a bankruptcy attorney who can represent you through the entire process. Find a bankruptcy lawyer close to your location who will be suited to handle your bankruptcy filing. You should find a lawyer with whom you feel comfortable talking and to whom you feel confident giving your personal information without hesitation.

Find a lawyer who specializes in the type of bankruptcy you may need to file. This could be for a business or an individual bankruptcy. Narrow down the selection to just a few who can answer your questions.

Look for attorneys who offer a free first-visit consultation. This is the most important aspect of finding a lawyer. You do not want to pay for the first visit just to have questions answered. Ask as many questions as you have. The first visit is to make sure that you should file, what the cost will be and what type of chapter bankruptcy you will file. On your first visit, also ask how much the attorney will charge for representing you in a bankruptcy.

Visit more than one attorney to see what each charges. Every attorney has a different fee, and some are more expensive than others are. You need an attorney that you can afford. Find out if the attorney has a payment plan to pay the fees associated with his services.

Decide how you get along with the lawyer. Ask yourself if this is the person you want to work for you and if you have faith in her abilities. Find out how you will communicate and how the attorney will gather all of the information needed to file your bankruptcy.

Select the bankruptcy attorney with whom you would like to work after interviewing more than one. Use what you have learned from the first visit to decide who will represent you the best for the money you will have to pay.
